How CGC Pricing Works

1. CGC Charges Based on a Comic’s Age and Value

CGC grading fees are determined by two key factors:

Age of the comic — Comics published from 1975 onwards are generally considered “Modern”, while books published before 1975 fall into “Vintage” tiers.

Declared value — More valuable comics require higher insurance coverage and faster handling, so they are submitted under higher pricing tiers.

As the declared value of a comic increases, the grading fee increases accordingly.

2. Larger Orders Reduce Shipping Costs Per Book

International shipping from CGC becomes significantly more economical as more books are included in the same submission.

For example, shipping 1–5 books may cost nearly the same as shipping 6–10 books, meaning the average shipping cost per comic decreases as submission size increases.

Where possible, Grail Hunters Australia recommends submitting multiple books together to maximise value.

3. Different Tiers Cannot Be Combined in One CGC Order

CGC requires comics from different grading tiers to be processed separately.

For example:

A Modern tier comic and a High Value tier comic cannot be submitted under the same CGC order.

If your submission contains books across multiple tiers, CGC automatically creates separate orders for each tier.

Each order attracts its own shipping and handling charges.

This is one of the biggest reasons accurate tier selection matters.

4. Grail Hunters Australia Uses Group Submissions

As an Australian CGC Authorized Dealer, Grail Hunters Australia combines customer submissions into larger group orders wherever possible.

This allows international shipping and handling costs to be spread across multiple customers instead of being paid individually.

The result is significantly better value for Australian collectors compared to sending books directly to CGC independently.

5. Turnaround Times Vary

CGC turnaround times are estimates only and can fluctuate throughout the year depending on submission volume.

Generally:

Higher value tiers are prioritized faster than economy tiers.

Pressing adds additional processing time before grading.

Current average turnaround time for pressing + grading is approximately 4–5 months, though this can vary.

This is one of the biggest reasons accurate tier selection matters.

AUD Pricing Structure

Exchange Rate Used: 0.6989 USD = 1 AUD – If this varies more that 3%, prices will be changed to suit.

Conversion Method: USD converted to AUD + 5% bank, service and currency buffer

Effective Conversion Multiplier: 1 USD = approximately $1.50 AUD
